25th Golf Classic comes to a successful end

The 25th Golf Classic national tournament Grand Final was declared a huge success by the finalists and sponsors who enjoyed the championship course at Hanbury Manor, Hertfordshire, followed by a gala dinner, prize giving and luxury stay.

Finalist, M&M Brickwork & Building Contractors Director David Macklin, said: “This year’s Grand Final was a fantastic event. I cannot speak highly enough of the venue, the course, the food, personnel and our opponents. The weather was just perfect too. Looking forward to 2018.”

Congratulations go to Plumbing and Heating Engineer Steve Hodgson and team mate Kev Blow of Lincoln Construction Builders, who won the competition with a remarkable 45 points. Kev Blow stood in for Gary Willis due to illness. We wish Gary well in his recovery. Marley Plumbing & Drainage Managing Director Stan James presented the winners with their trophies and £200 vouchers.

Beaten by only two points, runners-up Philip Edwards and Martin McGillivray of Scotframe Timber Engineering Limited, also received trophies and vouchers. TSP Media’s Dave Stiles presented his company sponsored Longest Drive prize to Kev Blow; and Dave Jones of Hamerville presented its sponsored Nearest the Pin prize to Philip Edwards.

Scotframe Timber Engineering Director Philip Edwards was thrilled to be a finalist. “My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed the Final at Hanbury Manor. It was great fun, both on and off the course. We can’t wait for next year’s competition!”

Marley Plumbing & Drainage continued its long association as sponsors of the Golf Classic. The national tournament is also supported by a wide cross-section of specialist construction press and media, which includes TSP Media, Hamerville and Mixed Media.

The separate sponsors competition was keenly fought. 1st prize was awarded to Marley Plumbing & Drainage team Stan James, Gavin Fryer-Kelsey and Warwick Mitton. The Runners-up were Paul Burton, Roy Alderslade and Steve Steele, also representing Marley Plumbing & Drainage.

The Golf Classic has become a must-attend event for those working in the construction industry and continues to attract golfers of all abilities from every corner of the country. In this year’s Grand Final plumbing and heating engineers, builders, architects, and electrical contractors, amongst other trades and professions, were represented.

The team is already planning next year’s action-packed tournament. The Golf Classic is open to those employed within the UK Mainland construction industry. Each year they take part to enjoy playing golf, meet new people and forge beneficial business associations. Why not join them?
