Newark Cylinders launches buffer vessel for height-restricted heat pump installations

Newark Cylinders has launched the Aquinox Pancake Buffer Vessel, a stainless steel buffer vessel designed specifically for heat pump installations where ceiling height or available space rules out a conventional unit.

Starting from 200mm tall and available in diameters up to 600mm, the Pancake Buffer Vessel is designed to stack directly above or below a hot water cylinder, allowing installers to make use of otherwise dead space in the plant room.

The Aquinox Pancake Buffer Vessel has a 3.0 bar max. working pressure, a·full-diameter baffle plate to reduce distortion and the company says that the drain connection can be re-purposed for a stat pocket.

Tom Sharpe, Technical Sales Manager at Newark Cylinders, said: “Customers kept telling us the same thing. Stackable buffer vessels on the market were making their installations too tall. So we developed a solution for one customer, and once we saw how well it worked, we turned it into a standard range. The Pancake starts from 200mm tall and stacks above or below the cylinder without adding unnecessary height. It fits where nothing else will.”

The vessel is available in three diameters (475mm, 550mm, and 600mm), with an overall height range from 200mm to 410mm, and is rated to a maximum working pressure of 3.0 bar. A full-diameter baffle plate is included to reduce distortion and promote stratification within the vessel.

The company says that the launch comes as heat pump adoption continues to grow across the UK, with installers increasingly facing challenges around spatial constraints in retrofit properties where plant rooms, airing cupboards, and utility spaces were not originally designed to accommodate heat pump system components.
