Budget 2021: furlough scheme extension and help for the self-employed

The Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, has declared his intention to protect “jobs and livelihoods” and to do whatever it takes to support both people and businesses.

Among the Budget announcements was confirmation that the furlough scheme will be extended until September, with employer contributions increasing as the scheme is phased out, and an extension of the Self Employment Income Support scheme to September, with 600,000 more people who filed a tax return in 2019/20 now able to claim for the first time.
