The four boiler parts most likely to fail

According to Which? Magazine’s latest Trusted Traders report – issued in November – the top four parts that fail in a gas boiler are the diverter valve, auto air vent, pressure relief valve, and printed circuit board.

153 heating engineers from Which? Trusted Traders were asked how much they would charge for parts and labour to fix the 10 most common boiler faults, and which parts are most likely to fail in a gas boiler.

Intergas has reacted to the news by pointing out that its combis don’t have either a diverter valve or auto air vent, essentially meaning that 50% of the top failing parts have been designed out. The diverter valve is rendered unnecessary thanks to the design of the Intergas bithermic heat exchanger and the dirt and debris that build up in an auto air vent’s housing are avoided as Intergas only uses a manual air vent.

John Lawton, Intergas Technical Product Manager, said: “For our customers, housing associations and installers alike, our boilers are synonymous with reliability, and that’s all down to ingenious design engineering. We’re delighted that this has now been independently substantiated by Trusted Traders.”
