The Installation Assurance Authority, a leading standards and representative body in the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy sector has announced the launch of a new guarantee for consumers and companies installing microgeneration technologies. The new IAA Microgeneration Guarantee is designed to deliver what the organisation says is, “the most robust consumer protection available in the industry for consumers.” It guarantees the installation of air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps, solar PV, solar heating and battery storage technologies.
Nigel Donohue, CEO of The IAA said: “We have listened to the concerns raised by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme and the findings of the Competitions and Markets Authority about the failings of insurance backed guarantees and designed a guarantee which is aligned to our current leading edge practice within the building fabric space, providing protection regardless of the trading status of the installer, cover for design and workmanship and importantly a guarantee that puts work right in the rare occasion it goes wrong and does not simply provide a compensation amount in full and final settlement. Our pre and post installation checks help provide homeowners with the assurance that work has been carried out right first time and that they are working with installers who are serious about consumer protection”
The new IAA Microgeneration Guarantee has been created by the IAA to help bring greater confidence and consumer protection in the Energy Efficiency and Green Heating sector in England, Scotland and Wales. It guarantees that any defect in workmanship or design in connection with the installation by the contractor of the specified microgeneration measures in a domestic property will be rectified without charge, subject to terms and conditions being met.
The guarantee period for each microgeneration technology covered, (air source heat pump, ground source heat pump, solar PV, solar thermal and battery storage), is six years. It is available to both IAA certified members and members of other certification schemes recognised by The IAA, where applicants sign up and comply with the guarantee Terms and Conditions.
