Industry Apprenticeship Board positions open for application

The Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician Apprenticeship Board is in the process of being set-up following the successful work undertaken by the previous Employer Group in developing the plumbing and domestic heating apprenticeship standard.

The apprenticeship standard was developed by plumbing employers to more effectively meet the needs of the learner, the employer and the industry. The Employer Group achieved this in consultation with industry and by developing the curriculum and assessment plan for plumbing and domestic heating apprenticeships in England.

The next phase of the project involves assembling a Board whose role will be to ensure there is compliance with the quality assurance requirements of the Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician Apprenticeship curriculum and assessment plan.

The Board has six positions which are required to be filled by suitably qualified and experienced employer representatives from the industry.

Graeme Dryden, APHC’s Technical Services Manager, has been involved in developing the apprenticeship standard since the project’s inception in 2014, and commented: “The Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician Apprenticeship Board will now play a key role in ensuring that the new apprenticeship quality assurance standards are met. This is an important remit as it will ensure that plumbing and heating apprenticeships are able to deliver the key skills people need whilst also helping safeguard the long-term development of the industry.

“We are looking for Board members who have experience in employing and training apprentices and who have a genuine interest and commitment to the industry.”

The Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician Apprenticeship Board is being administered by the APHC and the CIPHE. The Board will hold four meetings per year via a combination of ‘in person’ meetings and telephone conferencing. The first meeting is to be held at APHC’s offices in the West Midlands in late January 2017.

Interested parties can obtain further information and make an application by contacting Graeme Dryden by telephone on 0121 711 5030 or by email via [email protected]. The closing date for applications is 13th January 2017.
