Following the news that the Ideal Heating Commercial Evomax 2 is now available with an extended warranty, PHPI speaks to Charlie Mowbray, Ideal Heating Commercial Senior Product Manager, about the company’s well-known commercial wall-mounted boiler.
Q. What kind of commercial applications is Evomax 2 best suited to?
Designed and built in the UK specifically for the UK market, Evomax 2 is suited to a very wide range of commercial applications.
For light commercial applications, generally under 70kW and without the need for a Building Management System, this would include village halls, community centres, small schools, offices and retail units, or even large residential properties where a domestic combi-boiler isn’t able to deliver the heat output and reliability needed. A light commercial boiler is designed and built to accommodate a much more arduous duty cycle than a domestic boiler, and can run for very long periods at a high rate.
Q. What range of outputs are available?
Evomax 2 is available with outputs from 30-150kW, which can be increased to 900kW using six Evomax 2 boilers in cascade.
Q. Can the units be set–up in cascade and, if so, are there any additional elements that need consideration?
Yes, most definitely! Whilst cascading a boiler in a light commercial application is unusual, there are times when it would make for a more efficient outcome, such as a large home where you have one heating zone in demand, but the rest of the building is satisfied. That one zone might have a fraction of the heat input required compared to if the entire building was in demand on the coldest day.
If you put one large boiler in, you’ve got a certain amount of turndown on that boiler but the input could possibly be still far too large for the system to be satisfied under low load conditions. If you have two 30kW Evomax 2 boilers in cascade, you get a fraction of the input compared to the single large boiler. Operating in cascade gives you a better opportunity to match the loads on the systems and, as they are operating under part load conditions and not running flat out, it is more efficient.
We have made cascading Evomax 2 very easy through the provision of low height and standard frame and header kits, along with an online cascade configurator tool to make choosing what you need straightforward. These not only make it easy to build Evomax 2 in cascade, but also quick.
Q. Are any accessories available?
Evomax 2 is available with a range of accessories, including hydraulic separation. Our plate heat exchangers are becoming the more popular choice of hydraulic separation. They transfer heat from the boiler circuit to the system circuit without the two circuits coming in direct contact. The heat is transferred through a series of parallel plates with channels between them which the water can flow through independently of the other system.
Q. Why has Ideal heating Commercial recently announced the warranty can be extended from five years to 10 years?
As with all Ideal Heating Commercial condensing boilers, Evomax 2 is designed specifically for the UK market, and produced in a state of the art manufacturing plant in Hull which has seen considerable investment over recent years. We are one of the few true British manufacturers left in the heating industry and we consider the 10-year warranty we have introduced on Evomax 2 to reflect both our confidence in this market leading commercial boiler and our commitment to British manufacturing.
Q. Does the Heating engineer need to meet any additional requirements to secure the warranty?
The new warranty covers 10-year parts and labour when Evomax 2 is installed on an Ideal Heating pipework header kit with plate heat exchanger, and commissioned by Ideal Heating Commercial. Commissioning is provided as a free service and not only saves installers time and money, but ensures that the boiler is operating correctly before it is put into service. An Enhanced Appliance and Primary System Check is required, which is chargeable at £250 per boiler. The boiler must be fitted and maintained in line with the terms and conditions of the 10-year warranty.
The new 10-year warranty does not affect the existing 5-year warranty proposition, which will continue to be available with free commissioning.
