Sales of domestic gas boilers have bounced back from the COVID downturn, according to new figures from the Heating and Hotwater Industry Council (HHIC). Figures show that 2021 looks set to be a record year, with year-to-date sales up 41% on 2020, with 12-month average sales figures increasing by 14%.
Commenting on the figures, the Director of HHIC, Stewart Clements, said: “Sales have certainly bounced back from 2020, and consumers are once again investing in home renovation as they see the light at the end of the dark COVID tunnel.
“We expected this April to be better than last year, when sales fell off a cliff, but the whole year so far has seen a massive increase in sales. This is great news for the UK manufacturers who make the appliances, for the whole supply chain that gets them ready for the home, and for the 130,000 gas safe registered installers who fit them. Finally, it is also good news for the consumer as they get new high-efficiency products in their homes, helping to keep bills down.
“If 2021 continues this way, our UK-based industry will see a record breaking year, which is also good for the local economies in places like Preston, Hull, Worcester and Derbyshire.
“Over 80% of the boilers sold are combination heat and hot water boilers, where the home has no hot water cylinder.”
