Polypipe Regatta raises thousands for charity

Great sunshine and a fair wind contributed to the success of Polypipe’s 21st Annual Regatta on The Solent.

The charity event saw 465 people from across the heating and plumbing sector participate in a day of sailing with £8,000 raised through a charity auction and raffle for Polypipe’s corporate charity partner Help for Heroes and the John Merricks Sailing Trust.

40 yachts in a range of classes from cruiser racers to pilot cutters took to the water for a day of racing in the Solent at Portsmouth. The overall winning crew was from building materials and supplies merchant Grant & Stone. A crew made up of former servicemen and women from Help for Heroes was pipped to the post into second across two races.

For the past 21 years, the Polypipe Regatta has supported these fantastic charities – raising in the region of £150,000 to directly support their work. Since the first Regatta in 1998, Polypipe has sponsored the John Merricks Sailing Trust and from 2016 has supported Help for Heroes.

Cameron McLellan, Divisional Managing Director of Polypipe Residential Systems, said: “The Polypipe Regatta is an event so many people across our industry look forward to and it never disappoints. This year was no exception, with so many supporters of the event again making the trip to Portsmouth to join us for the racing in near perfect conditions.

“Help for Heroes and the John Merricks Sailing Trust are charities close to our hearts and all of the Polypipe team are proud to know that the money raised across the Regatta really does make a difference to the lives of so many.”
