In the future, programming and modularising an entire building is likely to become common practice, as digital construction is one of the most important developments in the industry. “Building information modelling” (BIM) is a method with tremendous potential: comprehensive databases of information enable the planning, construction and operation of a building, both in the digital and real world. BIM can also be used by companies working in the sanitary, heating and air-conditioning sector.
Duravit is now expanding its BIM data portfolio (so-called Revit files) and has joined the BIMobject global network. On the BIMobject website and on its own professional portal www.pro.duravit.co.uk the company now offers all the necessary BIM files to download for architects, planners and the sanitary, heating and air-conditioning trade.
According to the manufacturer, joining BIMobject has enabled it to hugely expand its offering. Indeed, this is set to continue: “In the next few years, the BIM file portfolio is to be expanded continuously”, says Albrecht von der Groeben, Chief of International Sales, Duravit AG.
Quality assurance and transparency
Digital planning that also includes the construction and operation of the building project enables exact and more comprehensive quality assurance. This should lead to greater transparency in the construction phase and, later, to lower operating and maintenance costs. So-called integral planning based on the BIM method is already required for public projects in the USA, UK and Spain.
Three-dimensional product visualization
The BIM method enables the presentation of Duravit products in various degrees of detail. In addition to the graphic and planning possibilities, the file also contains product information, such as the name, article number and dimensions. Thanks to 2D and 3D visualisations of the products, the files permit precise design and modelling of the bathroom in building projects.
The company believes that the provision of this large volume of BIM files online expands the Duravit service offering and enables optimum bathroom design and realization – even in complex projects.
With this step, it is promoting the development of integral planning in the modern construction industry. At the same time, the company is consolidating its position as a reliable partner for architects and property developers and this is reflected in numerous international projects. These include hotels, such as the Alpina Gstaad, large-scale projects, such as the Burj Khalifa, The Opus by Zaha Hadid or public buildings, such as the new Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.
