As the end of the year approaches, and we look forward to 2026, Stewart Clements, Director of the Heating and Hotwater Industry Council (HHIC), the Hot Water Association (HWA), and the Manufacturers’ Association of Radiators and Convectors (MARC), looks back at the organisations’ 2025 highlights.
Future Heating Strategy launched in Parliament
HHIC launched its Future Heating Strategy Paper at a Parliamentary reception on 1st April 2025, attended by industry leaders and policymakers, with the then Minister Miatta Fahnbulleh MP delivering the keynote speech.
HHIC and the Heat Pump Association (HPA) collaborated and launched the Water Treatment Guide. HHIC also updated its Hybrid Heating Paper and continued engagement in European and UK standards work, including hydrogen readiness, product safety and embodied carbon initiatives.
HWA drives hot water policy
HWA formed a dedicated marketing and PR group, chaired by Richard Prince, and relaunched its updated Connected Homes Paper during Net Zero Week 2025 in London. The event drew stakeholders from DESNZ, industry and Parliament, including Catherine Atkinson MP.
HWA also led collaboration on the G3 review, engaged with government on standards and represented the sector at Installer Live 2025 and Net Zero Week events.
MARC strengthens consumer protection with OPSS
MARC partnered with the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) to address product mis-selling and improve consumer protection. A comprehensive PR campaign, including approved OPSS commentary, was distributed to celebrate National Radiator Day (1 November 2025).
MARC also completed its Energy Efficient Heating Systems paper to support the campaign and continues promoting members through its website and communications channels.
Collaboration and member engagement
Across all three associations, a joint focus on digital transformation, events and engagement has strengthened member value. The Parliamentary reception and IMechE event with DESNZ provided key networking opportunities, while the ongoing Benchmark digitisation project reflects the sector’s shift towards smarter, paper-free practice.
