Team NAPIT will brave the Pennines this summer in support of Ashgate Hospicecare as it sets to embark on a gruelling 24-mile expedition across the Yorkshire Three Peaks on 22nd June.
The team, comprising a variety of age ranges and abilities from a selection of NAPIT’s departments, includes Group Chief Executive, Mike Andrews, alongside partners from NAPIT Drive and NAPIT Insurance.
The challenge is predicted to be a tough one, and is expected to take around 12 hours to complete. Starting the route at Ribblehead, the team will first tackle the 736 metre ascent to the summit of Whernside, then trek nine miles to begin the 723 metre climb up Ingleborough, and lastly is set to hike the smallest, but by no means small ascent up Pen-y-ghent at 694 metres.
The aim of the challenge is to raise much needed funds for Chesterfield based charity, Ashgate Hospicecare. NAPIT is currently participating in a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Scheme with the hospice to support and fundraise for the vital services it provides. Ashgate Hospicecare provides free pain relief and symptom control services to patients with life limiting illnesses, as well as emotional, spiritual and social care support, which is extended to help the patients’ families during tough times.
NAPIT Group Chief Executive Mike Andrews said: “I am proud NAPIT are supporting Ashgate Hospicecare this year and will be partaking in many activities to raise funds and awareness of the worthy services they provide. The hospice plays such an important role in our local community and provides services we, or our family members, may need at some point in life. Taking on the Three Peaks Challenge gives NAPIT the opportunity to raise a great deal of money for the hospice. Most of the team have never embarked on anything like this before, but we are all determined to reach each summit, and conquer the challenge whatever the weather.”
Ashgate Hospicecare relies mainly on fundraising and donations from the public to keep its services running and to continue helping families in the Chesterfield area. Team NAPIT aims to raise a minimum of £5,000 by taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.
