Bristan has announced that it has implemented a key change to its product design, with the replacement of plastic with brass backnuts.
The move is said to be part of an ongoing drive for product quality improvement and is in response to installer demands for a more robust and durable solution.
Backnuts are hexagonal nuts with an integral flange that are used to secure a tap fitting to a basin, sink or bath. They are typically made from plastic (PVC) but research from Bristan has found that installers are often frustrated with the strength of these nuts when tightened, as they are more likely to break.
In response, Bristan will be replacing all its plastic backnuts with brass, with the aim of delivering a stronger product that is built to last.
The secondary benefit of the drive is its environmental impact. With plastic currently in the spotlight, this initiative hopes to represent a proactive move for Bristan to reinforce its position on sustainability.
Chris Tranter, Senior Product Manager at Bristan, commented: “The problem of loose taps is often down to the backnuts that haven’t been tightened correctly because they have been known to split as soon as any real pressure is applied.
“The feedback from installers is that they have more confidence in brass backnuts so we’ve decided to make the changeover to brass at no extra cost. This fits in with our company-wide ethos to provide the best quality products on the market and helps to keep Bristan one step ahead from our competitors.”
He concluded: “Bristan’s quality improvement team is continually looking at ways in which products can be enhanced, with the needs of installers and customers always top of mind. Further quality-driven changes can be expected in the coming months.”
