In the latest video on the PHPI You Tube Channel, Stanley from SNL Plumbing takes a look at Ridgid’s new RP115 and picks out some of the key benefits of this new inline press tool.
With most plumbers and heating engineers keen on saving time on jobs, many now use press fittings, with the added bonus that there is no hot works permit required.
Ridgid has recently introduced the RP115 Micro Press Tool and Stanley from SNL got hold of one to take a look at the benefits, before putting it to use on a refurbishment job altering the pipework in an upstairs en-suite and a downstairs cloakroom.
Using the version with M profile jaws (the kit comes with 15mm, 18mm and 22mm jaws along with a battery and charger) Stanley was impressed by the size and weight of the tool commenting: “you forget that you’ve got it in your hand.” The RP115 weighs in at 1.3 kg and has a length of 33 cm – 38cm with jaws fitted.
Being compact and light, the tool can squeeze into tight spaces, such round the side of a cistern, as Stanley demonstrates in the video review. The inline design and a 210° Head Rotation are other reasons why it is suited for those jobs where access is limited.
Count to three
The RP115 is IP44-rated, has 15 kN electro-hydraulic force and a press cycle time of around three seconds: which Stanley demonstrates, making quick work of some 15mm fittings while installing pipework in a cloakroom. The tool also features one handed jaw operation – which helps to speed through the job.
Another benefit, which Stanley points out, is the integrated LED light. This helps to illuminate the working area – meaning that a separate work light may not be required – and one less tool installers need to take to the job. Stanley concludes: “All round I just really like the Ridgid RP115.”
