tado° introduces heating optimisation function for heat pumps

A new heating optimisation function has been introduced by tado°, a provider of intelligent energy management solutions.

The new feature enables people to set the heating curve of their heat pump through the tado° app and Heat Pump Optimizer X. This, the company says, allows the heat pump to operate more efficiently and save energy.

By using the function customers can set the heating curve in the tado° app with five options – Comfort, Standard, Moderate, Eco and Eco Plus. tado° says that in some heat pump installations the initial setting is made by the installer, who may be estimating the thermal conditions of the building. Potentially, it may be set too high and use energy unnecessarily. By setting the heating curve using the tado° app, the customer can fine tune their system to decide how fast the heat pump operates.

The Heat Pump Optimiser X from tado° is required for intelligent control of the heat pump. The new function can be found in the tado° app under ‘Settings’ –> ‘Heat pump’.

Heat Pump Optimizer X works with the main heat pump controller to allow customers to set smart scheduling for heating and hot water as well as manually adjust temperatures in the tado° app.

With the addition of Wireless or Wired Smart Radiator Thermostat X, it allows the individual control of the heating per room in homes with heat pumps.

When used in conjunction with tado°’s Balance for Heat Pumps loadshifting service and dynamic energy tariffs, the Optimizer X can shift operation times of a heat pump to periods when electricity prices are lower each day.

It applies to space heating and domestic hot water heating.

Heat Pump Optimizer X is compatible with a number of manufacturers in the European market including Atlantic, Vaillant, Saunier Duval, Fujitsu, Daikin and Panasonic. The company says that the development for other brands is continuing.
