Light rails can be an alternative to traditional solutions when installing heating and plumbing systems.

Q. Why choose a light rail alternative to strut for plumbing installs?
Traditional 41 x 41 strut is often used as a default rail system for all kinds of installations. However, with developments in product innovation, there are now more options available that can offer some great advantages over the traditional strut systems.

Q. How can a lighter channel benefit me?
For many installations like standard plumbing and heating pipework, ventilation pipes and cable trays, heavy and bulky 41×41 strut, and even 41×21 strut is not required. The weight of these types of installations can often be supported by a lighter strut rail such as Walraven’s RapidRail® channel system, which has additional benefits.

Q. What are some of the features of the Walraven RapidRail® 30×20 Channel System?
– 30×20 profile is easier to cut, handle and install, especially overhead
– 2m lengths as standard make the channel easy to store and transport
– Load tested so you know it will perform
– Eco-friendly, it uses 1.9kg less steel per metre than 41×41 strut
– Pre-assembled slide nuts simply twist into the rail for fast attachment of clips

Q. What do installers think?
Craig Reading at Home Counties Heating is a self-employed plumbing and heating engineer who has been using the Walraven RapidRail® system since 2020 to install heating and hot water system conversions.

Craig told us: “This system has been a great discovery for me! The benefit of the pre-assembled fixings really saves me time on larger installations. The channel is lightweight but strong and the other accessories like cantilever arms are also great, making it really versatile.”
