Baxi launches MCS umbrella service

Baxi has launched a Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) umbrella service for air source heat pump (ASHP) installers. The company says the scheme makes the MCS journey for installers straightforward by taking care of the design, compliance and paperwork, so the installer can focus on delivering efficient, low carbon heating.

The scheme offers nationwide on-site support from Baxi’s network of experienced ASHP engineers, designed to help installers stay compliant and save time. The company says installers that take advantage of the scheme can save approximately eight hours of admin time for every ASHP installation.

How it works
When a customer is interested in an ASHP, installers can contact Baxi who will provide an estimation of the size of the heat pump needed to deliver comfort to the homeowner in readiness for the installer to build their quote. Once the homeowner is happy to progress further, Baxi’s engineers then carry out an in-person site survey leading to a comprehensive heat loss report. The company says this includes everything from radiator sizes to pipework calculations, so that the installer can provide a final project proposal for the customer. Baxi will advise on the necessary kit and provide a complete parts list for installers to source from their preferred merchant. If accepted, Baxi administers the MCS paperwork on the installer’s behalf, freeing them up to move forward with the installation work itself.

As part of the service, Baxi checks the property’s eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), taking care of the compliance and MCS paperwork needed to access the grant funding. The BUS provides grants of up to £7,500 towards qualifying air source and ground source heat pump installations in England and Wales. Baxi can also help facilitate access to ASHP funding available from Home Energy Scotland.

Scott Riley, Baxi‘s Head of Technical Solutions – Residential, said: “We know that many installers feel like admin is a real obstacle that takes them away from the job at hand and adds a layer of frustration to their daily work. We want to make installing ASHPs attractive and easy for engineers — to do this, we’re putting the power back in their hands and taking the stress out of delivery.

“The idea is simple; we’ll do the surveying and the design, take care of the paperwork and return to commission the job so the installer can focus on what matters most for their customers — comfort at home. Installers that choose Baxi to support their ASHP installs will receive expert guidance at every step.”
