Stuart Elsy elected chair of Hot Water Association

Stuart Elsy, former managing director of OSO Hotwater (UK) Ltd, has been elected as the new chair of the Hot Water Association (HWA). He replaces outgoing chair, Stephanie Allchurch, Product Development Manager at Altecnic, who had been in the post since August 2022.

Speaking on behalf of the HWA, Stuart thanked Stephanie for her service over the last three years. “Steph has worked with energy and enthusiasm as chair, and has been instrumental in collaborating with other industry bodies, lobbying government and establishing new HWA working groups to bring domestic hot water to the forefront. We thank her for all her hard work, and I look forward to taking up the baton.

“I believe that the hot water storage industry is at its most important point in history. We have always been about providing the comfort of hot water to families and businesses. We now have an additional role to be a bank of Thermal Energy Storage Systems (TESS) that will play a crucial role in balancing the supply and demand of the electricity grid, and to maximise the gains from renewable power.

“To that end, I want the HWA and our industry to continue to work alongside government, the energy industry and other related trade associations with the common objective of maximising the benefits from renewable energy to drive down the cost of electricity to the consumer.

“We need to engage with other stakeholders, such as the electronic heating controls industry, to ensure that they are aware that products of the future should be able to control all heating devices in a smart way to eliminate energy wastage and reduce cost.”
