19 homes in Devon switch to 100% renewable liquid gas blend

A housing estate in Exeter has become the first in the UK to switch to a 100% renewable liquid gas blend for home heating.

Residents at Seaward Park, a 19-home estate, switched to bioLPG in December 2025.

Ivan Trevor of Flogas Britain, which supplies the homes, says: “This shows that off-grid homes don’t have to rip out their heating systems to reduce their emissions.”

The bioLPG is supplied using a certified ‘mass balance’ system, meaning that for every litre a customer buys, the same amount of renewable gas is added into the wider UK supply chain.

bioLPG is a drop-in fuel that works in the same way as conventional LPG, homeowners continue using their existing boiler, tank and pipework as normal.

According to Liquid Gas UK, 25 million litres of renewable liquid gas is already being supplied nationwide – a figure that is set to rise by 40% in the coming year.

“For rural communities where alternatives like heat pumps aren’t always practical, bioLPG offers a way to significantly cut carbon emissions without the disruption and expense of replacing entire heating systems,” Mr Trevor added.
