Polypipe Regatta registrations now open

The 20th annual Polypipe Regatta yacht race will return to Portsmouth on Thursday 6th September and promises to bring together the building, construction and plumbing sectors.

The race will see around 50 vessels set sail to compete and raise money for Polypipe Building Products’ charity partner Help for Heroes, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2018.

No experience is necessary as each yacht comes with an experienced skipper and mate, who will guide the guests through the day.

The event will open with a birthday celebration on the evening of Wednesday 5th September, giving attendees the chance to enjoy live music, street food, guest speakers, complimentary birthday cake and a welcome drink.

Cameron McLellan, MD of Polypipe Building Products, said: “Over the last two decades, the Polypipe Regatta has developed into a hugely popular event that never disappoints. It is the perfect chance for guests to get together, compete, and enjoy the festivities.

“We would be delighted to welcome customers and friends to the regatta’s 20th anniversary celebrations. Last year’s event was a great success and we intend to go one better and make this year’s regatta a day to remember, while continuing to support our regatta charities Help for Heroes and the John Merricks Sailing Trust.”

A choice of yachts will be available, with most competitors said to be opting for the 40ft cruiser-racer which will seat up to ten crew plus the skipper and mate, which is priced at £1,510 per yacht. A classic or historic yacht is also available which will include Sir Francis Chichester’s legendary Gipsy Moth IV. Each package includes places on a yacht, a skipper, breakfast, afternoon tea, waterproofs and regatta entry.

Guests are also encouraged to join Polypipe and fellow racers for the birthday party on the evening of Wednesday 5th September with the race being followed by a prize-giving ceremony and a charity raffle.

Last year’s regatta, which raised more than £10,000 for the regatta charities, was won by Upson Consultancy and skipper Chris Brooks, who beat 50 other hopefuls to take the 2017 title.
