Intergas partners with NEA charity

Intergas has announced it will be supporting the National Energy Action (NEA) charity, in a bid to help fight fuel poverty.

Low standards of energy efficiency in homes, high energy prices and declining household incomes have reportedly driven 11% of households in England into fuel poverty. The NEA believes the solution to tackling this problem is to improve the energy efficiency of housing and address the inequity that results in the poorest households spending £1billion more a year on energy compared to non-fuel poor households.

Speaking about the association, Manny Puletti, Sales Director at Intergas, said: “In a first world country like ours it is staggering that people have to choose between eating and heating. Living in a warm, dry home shouldn’t be an option, it should be your right.”

Intergas will be campaigning to help spread the word on saving energy by making small changes that will bring down utility bills. Its upcoming social media campaign will highlight the steps people can take in order to be smarter about energy use.

The NEA works across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and with its sister charity Energy Action Scotland, to address all aspects of fuel poverty. It places particular emphasis on the importance of greater investment in domestic energy efficiency and works in partnership with central and local government, fuel utility companies, housing providers, consumer groups and voluntary organisations, to undertake a range of activities to address the causes and treat the symptoms of fuel poverty.

These include:

  • Researching and analysing the causes and extent of fuel poverty and developing policies which will address the problem
  • Developing and managing demonstration projects that show innovative ways of tackling fuel poverty
  • Providing advice and guidance to installers on good practice in delivering energy efficiency services to low income households
  • Developing national qualifications and managing their implementation to improve standards of practical work and quality of energy advice
  • Campaigning to ensure that the needs of fuel poor households are recognised and addressed.
