Barclay Erskine Ltd, which is 150 this year, is a family run plumbing and heating business, specialising in domestic heating systems. The company has been has been offering friendly and professional plumbing and heating services to the Glasgow and Lanarkshire area since 1862.

Armed with balloons, a personalised cake and the party spirit, Worcester’s local technical sales manager, Kevin Torrance, visited Barclay Erskine Ltd HQ to join in with the company’s birthday celebrations.

Kenneth Thom, who joined his father Alan in the business based in Rutherglen 15 years ago, works and lives in the area and has been in the central heating industry since he started his career. He is also fourth generation to take charge at Barclay Erskine Ltd.

Kenneth said: “It has been great sharing a milestone birthday with Worcester, Bosch Group and we have thoroughly enjoyed taking a look back at the history of the heating industry.  In the run up to our birthday our tradesmen have enjoyed talking with our customers about what life for a plumber must have been like back when our company was founded in 1862.

“It’s strange to think that with running water only coming to the Glasgow area three years before our company was established, there wouldn’t have been the same need for Worcester’s products back then. Thankfully though, life has moved on since then and hot water and heating are now a necessity in all our homes."
